Faith Snakes weekend of recording and Shenanigans in San Diego / Pt. 1

First things first, my soundtrack for this past weekend was the Vultures United discography.  If you havent listened to this band, you should.  Rock-n-Roll blended with heavy Punk Rock = Awesome!  We've had the priviledge to play with these dudes a few times, and they're amazing live.  VULTURES UNITED

Friday night:
- I worked till around 530 - 6pm, went home and started packing for the weekend.  Chad and Joseph met up with me around 830 - 9pm to drive to Brandon's (Northern Towns) house where the studio is located.  Tommy (Northern Towns) runs their little studio down there at Brandon's place.  We packed up our sweet "cross-over" mini van, said goodbye to my lovely wife and children and got on the road around 10pm.  Matthew our bass player was going to leave Irvine, Ca around 10pm aswell and meet us down there.  He ended up getting to SD really early and decided to park downtown and check out the local night life.  He ended up on the rooftop of a popular hipster night club feeling really out of place in a t-shirt and jeans.  While everyone else there was wearing the same type of button down preppy shirt, slacks and the same type of terrible preppy "johnny knoxville" haircut!  hahaha .
Needless to say he hated it and was over-joyed to hear we had made it to the studio house.  When we got there Brandon and Tommy had been drinking a bit of the Devils Punch and were feeling a bit tippsy! We loaded our gear into the studio and set up Joseph's drums to be ready to jam early Saturday morning. The studio was awesome, There was this huge cardboard cut out of Borat in one corner. He always seemed to show up in pictures and was always smiling. Chad pointed that out and said "He must like he's hearing, he's always smiling!" Anyway, back to the studio, it's in the garage at Brandon's house and it's where Northern Towns practices and pre-demos most of their records. If you havent heard Northern Towns you should check it! I like to say its a blend of '60's garage + '70's oi = Northern Towns. NORTHERN TOWNS Tommy aka Thomas Garcia was nice enough to have us come down and be the first band that wasnt his own to have him record. Tommy and Brandon are old friends of mine, dating back to their time in a band called The Frontline, who featured Noah Bricker who sings for Rat City Riot as their singer. Also, around that time they both played for our friend Tim's little band called As I Lay Dying. We got settled into the studio and headed into the house to figure out sleeping arrangements. They had good floor space and a couch that pulled out. Before we layed down for the night we got into an intense game of Dominos that ended up being a no shirt game! At one point Brandon got a red Sublime sun drawn around his belly button and Joseph walked into the room with a bicycle helmet that he found in the other room. Many laughs were had and Brandon schooled us in Dominos. He even leaned over to Joseph at one point and asked "do you even know how to play?" It was awesome! Around 3am we finally broke the insanity and fell asleep!

Saturday:
-We woke up and began working on drum tones. Shaun our guitar player was to be down with us later in the afternoon, so Chad and Matt took turns laying down scratch tracks for Joseph to record with. Joseph banged out his tracks in a few hours. We were really happy with the way the drums were sounding, and Joseph killed it! As Joe was finishing up, Shaun made it down to see the magic happen. Next up was Matthew, our bass player. Matt shreds on the bass and was able to lay down some awesome fills and bass licks! Shaun went ahead and recorded his guitar parts next. His guitar sounded awesome and layed down a nice layer of rhythm that was real thick and full. Chad finished up the days recording with his lead guitar tracks. Tommy had a few really nice, different guitars for Chad to use and they all sounded amazing! All in all the day of recording ran really smoothly and set up a full day on Sunday for me to run through the vocals / do gangs / and start pre-mixing.. Stay tuned for part 2, with more pictures and maybe a video!!!

Baseball, Wings and Poker

Monday, Feb 23rd
So..  William had his first T-Ball practice this past Monday.  He definitely thinks it's a time for him to roll around in the grass and tap kids on the top of the head with his glove!  When we set up the tee or I pitch to him while we're at home, he's a natural Slugger.  Unfortunately it may take a little while for him to take playing the whole game with other kids and people watching him, seriously.  It's crazy to watch your kids grow and learn and put together all these things that you've been teaching them and using it in "real life".  We're the parents sitting on the bleachers, screaming for the team your child plays on to win now.  It's definitely an amazing feeling, and I get to share it with my beautiful wife.  All the while Cash, William's younger brother by 2 yrs, is chasing older girls around on the playground at the park where they practice.  Classic!!

Tuesday, Feb 24th
There's something very relaxing about sitting with a friend and having some good old fashined Chicken Wings!  Jon Rico came and met me at the Barbershop, I cut his hair, then we headed off to BWW for some R&R.  The Laker game was on and the place was packed.  Strangely though, with all the people there it didnt seem overwhelming.  We had a great time just chilling out after a long day of work.  Before we left I ordered 10 wings to go for Dano.  10 plain traditional, ranch on the side!  haha

After getting Wings and bringing some home for Dano, Rico and I retreated to the garage for a little bit of the old Texas Hold'em.  I've been obsessed with playing Poker for 8 or 9 years now.  I just cant get enough.  Sometimes I'll sit in the garage for hours and deal myself hands, it's kind of ridiculous.  ha  We sat, hungout, and played Poker for a few hours.  For some reason its a huge stress reliever to just sit, chat, and play cards.  Plus it's always funny to listen to Rico's stories of being a Bachelor.  Lord knows I dont miss all that crap!  This is why it's funny to listen to, he's leaving a long string of lonely hearts along his way to finding a wife!  haha

This weekend is going to be exciting.  I'll be posting some rad stories and pictures from over the weekend.  Stay posted!

Thanks friends

Introduction

Hey friends!

I plan on filling this part of the interwebz with my life.  Documenting my experiences in the Barbershop, playing in a band, being a Husband, and a Father.  This is going to be an outlet and insight for the things that I go through on a daily basis.  Stay tuned for pictures and stories of an American Barber.
